Many critical systems are dependent on digital technologies. Digital infrastructures are complex and management is often distributed across different organisations. The consequences of failure are becoming increasingly serious. Technology, particularly AI, is changing rapidly and presenting new opportunities and challenges. Software R&I needs to focus on providing the foundations for dependable, sustainable and resilient systems.
Interoperable digital solutions are becoming increasingly important. Technical interoperability is generally well supported by existing standards and practice. Additional benefits can be provided by semantic interoperability but this involves open research questions. Generative AI may have a significant role to play.
The DS2 project aims at enabling cross-sector data sharing to support complex applications and increase the value of data. NESSI and DS2 have agreed to cooperate by exchanging knowledge and exploring opportunities to increase the impact of DS2's results.
